What is the best way to clean my stainless steel range?

For best results when cleaning your stainless steel range:
• Clean it using warm, soapy water and a clean sponge or cloth. Do not use an abrasive cloth or pad.
• Always rinse your range thoroughly with clean water. If the soap or other cleanser isn’t rinsed off, it might produce a permanent bluish stain once the range is heated.
• After you’ve rinsed it, dry the range with a soft, clean cloth.

Tip: If you choose to use a kitchen cleanser rather than soapy water, use only cleansers that are specially made for cleaning stainless steel – avoid harsh scrubbing cleansers.

What should I do if my range does not appear to be level?

If your range does not appear to be level, try the following:
• Adjust the range’s leveling legs. It’s possible that your oven was not level when it was installed. To check this, simply place a rack in the center of the oven, then place a level on the rack and adjust the leveling legs.
• Check your kitchen cabinet alignment. The position of your cabinets may make your oven appliance appear to not be level. Be sure your cabinets are square, and that they leave sufficient room for appliance clearance.
• Be sure your kitchen floor is level. Check your floor to be sure it’s level, strong, and stable enough to adequately support the appliance. If the floor is sagging or sloping, you might want to contact a carpenter to correct it.

Why is my gas burner’s flame orange instead of blue?

You might see an orange flame if there are dust particles in your main gas line. Simply turn your burner on for a few minutes, until the flame turns blue.

Note: In coastal areas, it is normal to regularly see a flame that is slightly orange. This is caused by the salt in the air.

What should I do if my electric burners don’t turn on?

If your cooktop’s electric burners don’t turn on, check the following:
• The control. Be sure to use the correct control for the element needed and ensure that it is ON.
• The heat setting. Turn the control to a slightly higher setting until the element comes on.
• Power to appliance. Reset the cooktop by turning the breaker off and then on again.
• Your electricity source. If a power outage has occurred, you might want to call your local electric company.

How can I prevent or remove brown streaks or marks on my electric or induction cooktop surface?

Brown streaks, spots, or other marks are most likely caused by food boiling over and then being cooked onto your oven’s surface. You can remove them by carefully using a razor blade to scrape them off.

Tip: Prior to using your cooktop for the first time, apply the recommended cooktop cleanser to the surface and buff using a nonabrasive cloth or pad. This will make future cleanup of food easier, and the special cooktop cleansing cream leaves a protective finish that helps prevent scratches.

What should I do if my induction cooktop doesn’t seem to be heating?

If your cooktop doesn’t seem to be heating, it might be because:
• You need to check the placement of your cookware. If you have an induction cooktop, be sure that the bottom of your pot or pan is large enough for the cooking zone you’re using, and that it is centered on it.
• Your cookware isn’t compatible with an induction cooktop. Our induction cooktop surfaces are compatible with most cookware you might use – if a magnet sticks to the bottom of your pot or pan, it will work on an induction cooktop.
• No cookware was placed on your induction cooktop. If you’re using an induction cooktop, it will not turn on unless a pot or pan has been placed on it.
• The cooktop’s control needs to be adjusted. Make sure the right control is turned on for the element you’re using, and that the setting isn’t too low. (Try turning it to a slightly higher setting until the element turns on.)
• The power cord isn’t plugged in.
• The wiring is not complete. Contact your local dealer, installing agent, or authorized service provider, or contact Electrolux at 1-877-4 ELECTROLUX

What is the difference between a built-in and a freestanding range or stove?

• A built-in range is designed to slide in and fit flush with your countertop. This is ideal for an island and can also be used in a regular setting to showcase a decorative backsplash. With a built-in range (also called a slide-in range), the cooktop and oven controls are at the front of the appliance.
• A freestanding range is used in traditional installations (against the kitchen wall), and typically has controls at the back of the cooktop.

What is perfect convect3®, and how does convection cooking work?

Electrolux ranges offer Perfect Convect3®, which features a third convection element for consistently even results, up to 30% faster cooking times, and even more baking options.

Convection cooking is cooking with the added advantage of airflow circulation, which allows for a more even distribution of heat. By using the forced flow of hot air, convection cooking produces the following benefits:
• Cooking time is approximately 25 – 30% faster than in conventional ovens, saving energy.
• The more even distribution of heat results in food that is more evenly baked.
• Generally, less heat is required than with a conventional oven – a convection oven usually cooks at 25°F below a conventional oven's required temperature. So simply program your oven according to your recipe’s temperature requirements and press “Convection Conversion,” and the oven will automatically convert the temperature.

What should I do if only part of my gas burner shows a flame?

If your burner is only partially lit, it could be because it is clogged. Be sure to turn the burner off, then use a small-gauge wire or needle to clean its openings.

A partial flame might also be caused by moisture remaining in the burner after it has been cleaned. If you think this might be the case, lightly fan the flame and allow the burner to operate until the flame is full.

What type of pots and pans should I use with my range with induction cooktop?

Electrolux induction hybrid cooktops include a combination of electric elements that are compatible with all cookware, and induction elements that are compatible with most cookware. If a magnet sticks to the bottom of the pot or pan, it will work on your Electrolux cooktop.

Cookware made of aluminum, copper, or glass (including Pyrex) is not compatible with an induction cooktop. In addition, some types of stainless steel may not work on an induction surface, or may heat very slowly.

Tip: Do not let your pots or pans boil dry. Doing so may cause permanent damage to a ceramic cooktop (breakage, fusion, or marring that is not covered by your warranty).

To further prevent scratches on your cooktop surface:

• Be sure that the cooktop and any pots, pans, or utensils you use are clean. If coarse particles (such as salt) come between your cooktop and utensils, scratches can result.
• Use pots and pans that have a smooth, flat bottom.
• Use cleaning materials that are recommended for ceramic/glass cooktops.

Any small scratches that occur will not affect your cooktop’s performance, and will become less visible over time.

Why does my induction cooktop turn off while I’m cooking?

For your safety, there are a few conditions that will cause your cooktop to automatically turn off, including:
• The heat sensor has detected a high temperature inside the oven. We recommend that you check to be sure the appliance’s vent holes are not blocked.
• Fluids have spilled onto the cooktop, or an object is lying on its control area. Simply clean any spills or remove any objects, then turn your cooktop back on.
• Your cooktop has been in use continuously for over 12 hours. Sensing this extended use will cause the cooktop to turn off.

What is induction and how does it work?

With faster, more responsive heating, more energy-efficient cooking and easier cleaning, induction takes cooking to a whole new level. It combines the benefits of gas and electric cooktops – merging the power of gas with the easy cleanup of electric.

Using electromagnetic energy, heat is transferred directly to the cookware, so the cooktop remains cooler. And induction allows for more precise control when cooking – you can instantly adjust the heat to a delicate simmer or bring it to a quick boil.

What can I do to ensure the best results when cooking with my range with induction cooktop?

There are many factors that can affect cooking, but you can help ensure best results by following these recommendations:
• Use heavier, high-quality cookware that is compatible with induction. High-quality cookware that is heavier and has a flat bottom will help your food cook more evenly.
• Use the correct size cookware. The two induction cooking zones available on the cooktop require a specific pan size to be used at each location. The inner ring of each cooking zone is your guide to the correct minimum pan size. The pan bottom must fully cover the inner ring for proper cooking to occur. The thicker outer ring around each cooking zone is helpful to determine the maximum pan size.
• Adjust the recipe's suggested temperature or cooking time. Your induction cooktop provides exceptional temperature control that allows you to adjust heat with greater accuracy than gas or electric cooktops, especially at lower settings. It’s perfect for melting chocolate and cooking delicate foods and sauces.

Will a draft blowing through my kitchen affect my ventilation hood’s performance?

For the best ventilation of your kitchen, the only air currents should be those that are created by the ventilation hood.

While you’re cooking, try to reduce drafts in your kitchen as much as you can. A draft that blows across your range or cooktop can cause the heat, steam, moisture, grease, and aromas to escape from your ventilation hood.

Helpful?

When should I turn on the ventilation hood?

To ensure the most effective performance, turn on your ventilation hood a few minutes before cooking. This will establish the upward air currents that will carry away the heat, smoke, moisture, grease, or cooking aromas that might be produced. Keep your ventilation hood turned on for about five minutes after you have finished cooking.

What is the best fan speed to use if I have a gas range/stove or a gas cooktop?

For best results, use a fan speed that’s just high enough to draw steam and cooking odors up and out of your kitchen, adjusting the fan as needed during the cooking process.

For gas cooktops, it’s best to use the lowest fan setting on your ventilation hood. In general, you’ll know you need to lower the fan speed if the gas flame is being blown by the air movement, if the burner continually sparks or clicks, or if the burner flame repeatedly blows out.

How can I tell if my appliance is Energy Star® qualified?

When shopping for an appliance, it's easy to recognize the ENERGY STAR® label that identifies qualified products. This label means that the product passed stringent standards set by the U.S. Department of Energy. Additionally, manufacturers are required to display their products’ test results on the ENERGY STAR® label. The label will tell you about the product's efficiency level, including approximately how much energy the appliance uses, its average annual operating cost, and how its energy use compares with that of similar products.

Helpful?

What does Energy Star® qualified mean?

Products that are ENERGY STAR® qualified are equivalent to or better than standard products, with one important difference: They use less energy. To earn the ENERGY STAR® rating, products must meet strict energy efficiency criteria set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency or the U.S. Department of Energy. How do I clean and care for my dishwasher?

To keep your dishwasher as clean as possible, follow these steps:

Outside: Occasionally wipe the outside surfaces of your dishwasher with a mild, nonabrasive detergent and water, then rinse and dry.

Stainless steel door: Clean the stainless steel door and handle with hot, soapy water and a dishcloth, then rinse with clean water and a cloth. Do not use harsh scrubbing cleaners – use only kitchen cleaners made especially for cleaning stainless steel.

Stainless steel interior: Remove spots on the door and inside the dishwasher with a damp, nonabrasive cloth.

Stainless steel filters: Your dishwasher is equipped with a state-of-the-art wash system. Periodically, you may need to clean the glass trap filter and the large food particle trap in order to maximize your dishwasher’s performance. The glass trap filter is located in the center of the large food particle trap, and is designed to collect pieces of broken glass, straws, bones, and pits. To remove items in the glass trap filter, grasp the handle, lift it out, empty it, and replace it.

Tip: You can use a water filter attached to your dishwasher to help prevent iron deposits (which appear as a yellow or brown film) from forming on your dishes.

What causes the appearance of etching on my dishes?

Etching can be caused by using too much detergent or by soft water, either of which can produce a film that cannot be removed. To help prevent this:

• Lower your water temperature, but be sure to keep it above the minimum recommended temperature of 120°F.

Reminder: The temperature of water entering your dishwasher may drop considerably in the winter, depending on where your plumbing runs in relation to the outside walls of your home. Check to see that your water temperature can reach at least 120°F (49°C).

• The delay start option, which will postpone the start of the cycle until the time you have selected. It is designed to allow you to control when your dishwasher runs – choose to have it run it when it’s most convenient for you, or to coincide with lower energy rates.
• The sanitize option, which takes longer to wash and dry. This option uses higher heat for maximum cleaning, and offers maximum drying capabilities.
It can also be normal for the wash cycle to be momentarily delayed if water needs to be heated to the appropriate temperature.

What should I do if my dishes aren’t as clean as I would like after I run my dishwasher?

If you see food particles on your dishes after they have been run through the dishwasher’s cycle, try the following:
• Choose a cycle with a longer wash time, especially if dishes are extra soiled.
• Be sure that the dishwasher racks are properly loaded. Avoid overcrowding.
• Check with your local utility company to ensure that the water pressure in your home is between 20 and 120 psi (pounds per square inch).
• Check to determine whether you have hard water. If so, you may need a water softener. To determine your water hardness, contact your water supplier or county extension office.
• Use fresh detergent, because old detergent is not always effective.
• Check to see that the dishwasher’s spray arms are not blocked.
• Be sure that the water coming into your dishwasher is hot water. The water should be at least 120°F (49°C).

How can I keep my refrigerator or freezer smelling fresh?

Freshness in your refrigerator or freezer can be affected by how food is stored. Some foods have a strong odor, so be sure to cover them tightly.

After you’ve checked how your food is stored, try cleaning the interior of your freezer with a sponge, warm water, and baking soda.

Why does moisture collect on the inside of my refrigerator or freezer?

It is normal for the rate of frost buildup or “sweating” inside your refrigerator or freezer to increase when the weather is hot or humid. Other reasons you might see moisture inside your refrigerator or freezer can include:
• The doors aren’t completely closed.
• Warm air has entered after the doors have been opened frequently.
• Uncovered food containers or very warm food has been placed inside the refrigerator or freezer, causing condensation.
If moisture collects in refrigerator drawers, routinely clean out old fruits and vegetables. If your refrigerator has an adjustable humidity control, you can also try moving this to a lower setting.

Simply set the freezer control to a warmer/colder setting, allowing 24 hours for the temperature to stabilize. This won’t affect the temperature in your refrigerator.

Please note that it’s normal for your freezer to temporarily seem warmer if:
• You’ve recently placed large amounts of warm or hot food in it. Warmer items affect the freezer temperature; simply wait until it has had a chance to return to your selected setting.
• The door has been opened frequently. If warm air has been allowed in to the freezer, leave the door closed for awhile – the temperature will return to its desired setting.
• It has recently been disconnected for a period of time. After being reconnected, the freezer can take up to 24 hours to completely cool down again.

What are the differences between refrigerator styles?

French door models feature a two-door refrigerator on top and freezer drawer on the bottom. The lower freezer is a pull-out basket. Many French door models also offer filtered ice and water dispensers in the door.

Side-by-side models feature two doors; the freezer is on the left and the refrigerator is on the right. The simple, yet stylish design makes it easy to organize and find items. Often they have ice and water dispensers in the door, and they work well when you don’t have a lot of space for the door to swing open.

Top freezer models with the freezer on top are good for smaller kitchens, offering roomy storage on wide shelves and a lower cost of operation. The direction the door opens can often be reversed to meet your specific needs.

If my refrigerator’s compressor isn’t running, what should I do?

If the compressor isn’t running, it might simply be because your refrigerator is in defrost mode. This is normal and can last up to 30 minutes.

You can also check the following:
• Be sure that your cooling system is turned on.
• Be sure your refrigerator’s power cord is securely plugged into the outlet. Also, it is recommended that you not plug your refrigerator into a GFCI outlet (an outlet that has a “TEST” and “RESET” button).
• Consider replacing your circuit or fuse with a 15-amp time-delay fuse. A time-delay fuse accepts a momentary overload (as when the compressor cycle is on) for a short period of time without blowing.
• You may want to reset your circuit breaker.

What can I do to ensure the best results when cooking with my induction cooktop?

There are many factors that can affect cooking, but you can help ensure best results by following these recommendations:

• Use heavier, high-quality cookware that is suitable for induction cooktops.
The thicker outer ring each cooking zone is helpful to determine the maximum pan size.
• Adjust the recipe's suggested temperature or cooking time. Your induction cooktop provides exceptional temperature control that allows you to adjust heat with greater accuracy than gas or electric cooktops, especially at lower settings. Perfect for melting chocolate and cooking delicate foods and sauces.

•The cycle selector knob is not quite at the start position. To be sure it’s correctly positioned, simply turn the knob until the indicator is a little further into the cycle.
•The dryer door is open. The door must be completely closed for the dryer to run.
•The power cord may not be plugged in or the connection may be loose. Check to be sure the plug fits tightly into the wall outlet. Note: Do not use an extension cord.
•A fuse is blown in your home or a circuit breaker tripped. If this is the case, reset the circuit breaker or replace the fuse (but do not increase the fuse capacity). If you have an overloaded circuit, contact a qualified electrician to correct it.

Can I do anything to help decrease wrinkles in my clothes?

If you have a Perfect Steam™ Dryer, its advanced technology will remove wrinkles and freshen clothes. You can also select its “Add Steam” option with many cycles.

In general, for best results when drying your clothes, follow these steps:
• Load the drum so that it’s 1/3 to 1/2 full. To decrease wrinkling, clothes need room to tumble freely.
• Select the appropriate cycle setting and temperature. Use the Permanent Press cycle and follow fabric care labels for proper temperature setting. Generally you’ll want to select low or medium heat and the Normal Dry setting. Select More Dry for loads requiring more time, and Less Dry if you want the load to be damp dry for ironing. Additionally, some dryer models offer the Extended Tumble cycle, which is an extended cool down with signals to remind you to remove the load.
• Remove items from the dryer when the cycle is done. As soon as the cycle is complete, hang or fold your items. To remove wrinkles from clean, dry clothes, select the Refresher Cycle (available on some models) or tumble them on low heat for 10 to 15 minutes.
• Clean the lint screen after every use.
• Add a fabric softener sheet to the load.

My dryer is running but does not seem to be heating. What should I do?

There are two house circuits or fuses in an electric dryer's circuit. If one of them is tripped or blown, the drum may still turn but the heater will not operate. If this is the case, you’ll need to reset the circuit breaker or replace the house fuse.

Additionally, you can check the following:

•Cycle or temperature setting. Check the cycle selector. Please note the following cycles will tumble with low heat: Delicate, Active Wear, Touch Up, and Perfect Steam™.
• Outlet wiring. Have a qualified electrician verify that the voltage supplied (240v) is correct.
• Gas supply valve. Be sure the gas supply valve to a gas dryer is open.
• Gas supply tank. If you have a gas dryer and your LP gas tank is empty, refill or replace the tank. If there has been an interruption in the natural gas supply, call your natural gas company.
• Air supply around a gas dryer. The dryer needs space around it for proper ventilation to support the gas burner. Do not stack or place laundry or rugs against the front or back of the dryer

What is Perfect Convect3®, and how does convection cooking work?

Electrolux ovens offer Perfect Convect3®, which features a third convection element for consistently even results, up to 30% faster cooking times, and even more baking options.
